Flaws / Defects
It is absolutely normal to see some sort of imperfection in movie posters. Folds and miniscule pinholes, for example, can be found often. After all, these posters were used as real advertisements in movie theatres! If you would like your poster restored, we offer professional restoration which is conservation quality.
MOVIE POSTER FLAWS AND DEFECTS
Paper is known to turn brown with age. Browning can be a minor or a major flaw.
CREASE
A crease can be considered a minor or a major flaw, depending on the location, size, etc.
FADING
Since original movie posters were frequently displayed out of doors, fading is possible. The amount of fading will determine whether this is a minor or a major flaw.
FOLDED
Many original movie posters which were issued before 1985 were folded. This is a normal condition
FOLD SEPARATION
From time to time, a tear will occur along the fold line of a poster. This flaw is considered minor unless the tear is quite large.
FOLD WEAR
Older posters have been folded and unfolded frequently through the years and the lines at the folds can become worn. While typically considered a minor flaw, this condition can become more important if the fold wear is particularly noticeable, causing a significant amount of white to show at the location of the fold wear.
HANDLING WEAR
General term used to describe a poster that has normal minor wear and tear like pinholes, fold separations, etc.
MISSING PAPER
Depending on the severity, this can be a major or minor flaw. It depends on its size, location, and whether it detracts from the original image or not. If it is large and distracting and can not be removed, then it is a major flaw. Some consider this to be a "good" flaw since it is a very important part of the history of the poster and helps to determine its authenticity.
MOLD
Depending on the severity, this can be a major or minor flaw.
SNIPE
Occasionally, small stickers were affixed to an original poster containing reviews, ratings, etc. Typically considered minor flaws, location, size and impact on the original image can determine how serious this flaw might be.
TEAR
Tears come in all shapes and sizes, from extremely negligible to a larger, more obvious tear. Depending on all the variables, a tear can be a minor or a major flaw.
WATER/MOISTURE DAMAGE
The amount of water damage will determine whether this is a minor or a major flaw.
WAVINESS
Caused by a variety of variables such as weather conditions and storage, can be considered a minor or major flaw, depending on the amount and type of waviness.
WRINKLING
Wrinkling can be considered a minor or major flaw, depending on the amount and type of wrinkle.
